Hi! I’m incredibly new to Blender.

I’m trying to sculpt wooden details on my crate and I’m not sure why it’s not showing up. I’ve taken a look at videos and articles but they show menus I don’t have or I repeatedly follow the tutorial incorrectly but I don’t know what’s going wrong.

I’ve tried subdividing and adding more veritices didn’t work. Can anyone suggest anything? What am I missing?

There’s a lot that could be going on. Sculpting can be a beast. Looks like you’re using the scrape brush and not quite getting the results you’re looking for. Messing around with the scrape brush for a second to reacquaint myself, doesn’t seem to perform how I would expect a brush with that name to work, so maybe that’s part of it. Here’s the Blender Manual and a list of the brushes and what they do https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/search.html?q=sculpt+brushes&check_keywords=yes&area=default

Also, when you press TAB and got into edit mode, switch to vertex selection and see if the flat areas in your object have been subdivided (should look like tiny grids over everything) if not, there may be an issue with the geometry preventing it from subdividing in areas where you want detail to show up. You can also try enabling the checkbox in the top menu next to Dyntopo and lowering the detail size (doing so increases detail as counter intuitive as that sounds) as low as your computer can handle. Also I wonder if the layer brush might actually give you more of the results you’re looking for with the minus button checked next to where it says strength.

In general, 3D modeling requires a lot of knowledge about what type of approach to use to accomplish the results you want. As much as it may hurt to sit through a beginner tutorial series (consuming maybe 20 or so hours of your life) it will save you a lot of time in the long run and really make the whole thing a lot easier.
